How to Teach Kids Yoga Poses

How to Teach Kids Yoga Poses

Yoga is a practice that can be enjoyed by many people, but it's also beneficial for children. Yoga teaches kids to focus on their breathing and stay calm in stressful situations. It also incorporates strength-building poses, which are great for the body. This blog post will cover the basics of teaching yoga to children.

Yoga for Children: How to Teach Kids Yoga Poses

Set Up a Nice Place

You need to find a good place with plenty of space. If you're doing yoga at home, make sure the playroom is clean and free of toys. You don't want to trip over anything or have something break during your lesson. When it comes to locations outside of the house, try a public park with nice grassy areas where children can enjoy running around between poses.

Give Instructions Gently

When you're teaching yoga to children, it's important to be gentle with your words. They may not have the same level of focus as adults, so remind them often what they should be doing and keep instructions simple. For instance, telling a child to "relax" is much more effective than saying, "now close your eyes and clear your mind."

Be Calm and Patient with Children

Yoga is a great way to teach children how to be patient. If they start getting restless, remind them that it's okay if they can't do something right away or need help. Yoga teaches kids self-compassion, which will benefit them in the long run as well as set a good example for them to follow.

Encourage Them to Have Fun

The best part about teaching yoga to children is that they usually have a lot of fun with it. Let them explore their creativity and come up with their own poses. As long as they're being safe, let them run around and enjoy themselves between poses. It can be a great way to teach them how to balance and concentrate on what they're doing.

Practice the Poses with Them

You want to show them how to do the poses, but you don't have to perform them perfectly. If your child is having trouble with a pose, demonstrate how it should be done for them so they can understand better. Yoga is all about being kind and gentle to yourself when things aren't perfect or go wrong.

Use Video Instruction

Using videos to teach children yoga poses is a great way to keep them interested. There are plenty of kid-friendly yoga videos on YouTube that will demonstrate the poses for you. This can be especially helpful if you're new to teaching yoga and want some guidance.

Make it a Tradition.

Being consistent is key when teaching children yoga. If you can, try to practice every day or at least a few times a week. This will help them learn the poses and breathing exercises better, not to mention that it will become a fun tradition for the family.

Yoga is something that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, so start your young child, and they will reap the benefits for years to come.
