For Children Ages 3-7
Teach them to Connect with their Breath and Feelings (Lotus Breath)
As a teacher, you should use various yoga hand poses (mudras), music, and other entertaining things to make it more engaging. Your lessons should start by instructing the kids to create a lotus mudra by putting their pinkies and thumbs together to form a lotus flower.
Instruct them to take a deep breath and envision the perfume of their flower and how they feel after smelling it. Then, to get an indication of their energy level and how they're feeling, you should ask them questions about how they feel, what their favorite thing is, etc.
Children must begin a discourse about their emotions and sentiments so that they may connect with their sorrow, rage, and joy. It's very normal for youngsters to be oblivious to their feelings. Though their words may be limited, you can comprehend how they feel based on their energy if you can be present.
Children 8 Ages and Above
Bear Breath: Connecting to Breath and Feelings
At this age, children must be taught proper breathing. As the teacher, explain to older kids that their tummy swells like a balloon when they breathe properly. Exhaling via the nose pulls their tummy back to their spine and deflates the balloon. After this, proceed to the bear breath.
They should inhale four times, hold for four counts, then exhale for 4 counts via their nose. This is a great breathing technique for worried, angry, or depressed kids. Slowing down the breath causes more oxygen to reach the brain, resulting in greater clarity.
Meditation: Calming Guided Visualizations
You should either speak aloud or play guided visualization like the “Light bath’. In the form of pink light, instruct them to expel negative energy. Show the kids how to take the pink light and lead it to each main body area, inviting them to breathe into each (ears, eyes, mouth, heart, arms, legs, brain).
Then, have them inhale love and bless their friends and family with love. Inhale forgiveness and let go, and exhale forgiveness to those who have wronged them. Finalize by thanking them for all their outstanding qualities. The kids will undoubtedly feel lighter and more at ease when they wake up.
