How to Practice Yoga with Children

Tips for Practicing Yoga with Kids 

Start by telling what yoga is 

Let your kids understand what they are getting themselves into. Explain to them what yoga is and the benefits that they will get from it. By telling them the benefits, you are motivating them to do it. 

Make it fun and enjoyable. 

Kids will not want to do something that is boring or difficult. Make sure that you make the practice of yoga enjoyable for them by playing games, singing songs, and being creative with your poses. 

Make it a family activity. 

The whole family can participate in yoga. This is a great way to spend time together and help improve your overall health. 

Be patient and give them encouragement. 

Kids will not be able to do the same poses as adults, and that is perfectly normal. Encourage them and praise them for their efforts, no matter how small they may be. 

Set boundaries 

If you have to set some boundaries, make sure that you do it in a way that does not disrupt the yoga practice. Let them know how long the yoga session will last and what they are allowed to do during and after the practice. 

Do partner yoga poses with them. 

This is a good way to get them to try out new poses and help them build their confidence. Poses such as the butterfly, the tree, and the warrior can be fun to do with a partner. 

Make it a regular habit. 

The more you practice yoga with your kids, the better they will get at it and the more benefits they will reap from it. Make sure that you make it a regular habit for both of you. 

Provide props 

If your kids are not able to do a pose, you can provide them with props such as blocks or straps to help them get into the right position. This will make it easier for them, and they will be less likely to give up. 

Have a specific yoga spot 

This is important as the kids will be able to focus on their practice better. You can put your yoga mat in the living room, backyard, or any other area that you frequent most often. 

Do not forget to breathe correctly. 

When doing poses with your children, it is important that they are aware of how to do breathe properly while practicing yoga. If you pay attention to your breathing, you will help them with theirs. 

Do not forget about meditation and relaxation techniques. 

Yoga is more than just physical poses; it also involves meditating for a few minutes after the practice. This will help them relax their minds as well as their bodies. If they are able to understand this technique now, then they will be able to do it when they are older.
