5 Important Things to Avoid During Yoga Classes

5 Important Things to Avoid During Yoga Classes

Yoga is a great way to get in shape, relieve stress, and rejuvenate your body. However, some people make mistakes when practicing yoga which can lead to injury or even death. In this article, we will discuss five important things you should avoid during a yoga class.

Don't use drugs or alcohol before the class

Drugs and alcohol both affect your ability to focus on what's happening at the moment, so it's best not to consume either of them prior to attending an exercise class such as Yoga. You'll be more likely than usual to injure yourself without realizing what you're doing if you have consumed drugs or alcohol beforehand.

Dont force yourself into poses you're not ready for

Some people get ahead of themselves during a yoga class and try to do poses they aren't ready for. This can lead to injuries, as your body may not be flexible or strong enough yet to complete the pose safely. Always listen to your instructor and don't push yourself too hard.

Don't eat immediately before the yoga class

You shouldn't have eaten anything for at least two hours beforehand. You don't want to feel nauseous or uncomfortable during your yoga session, but you also don't need a big meal in your stomach if it's going to make you lay down and fall asleep. Make sure that when you go to do yoga, you've had a little time to digest your food and that you're not feeling too full.

Dont put on strong scents

Since yoga emphasizes deep breathing, it's important to avoid putting on strong scents before your yoga class. You don't want the smell of perfume or cologne interfering with that process.

Dont wear heavy clothing

If you're wearing heavy, long clothes during a hot yoga session, they might get wet and clingy while you perspire heavily during your workout. Rather than wearing a heavy, long shirt during yoga, opt for lighter clothing that will dry faster and not restrict movement.

You should never ignore the instructor's instructions

While you may feel confident in your ability to do a pose, always listen to the instructor's instructions. They know the safest way to complete each pose and you don't want to injure yourself by trying something that's beyond your current level of flexibility or strength.

No selfies

This is another area where you should listen to your instructor. Taking selfies during yoga can be a dangerous distraction. You're not there to take pictures, you're there to focus on your own practice and improve your health. Save the selfies for another time.

Do not step on another person's mat

Your mat is yours. Always be respectful of others who are practicing yoga, and do not step on their mats with your bare feet or dirty shoes.

These are five important things to avoid during a yoga class in order to stay safe and have a successful workout. By following these tips, you'll be able to get the most out of your yoga workout.
